The Houston Creole Heritage Festival sure has some steadfast faithful vendors and followers. Although we’ve all been experiencing the recent roller coaster ride, had the emotional switch turned on/off between feeling nervous & scared to feeling microseconds of relief, intuitively we understand the ride will end. We walk away from the gut-wrenching spiraling ride, feeling a little dizzy but then something glorious happens too. We feel a sense of pride too. We made it. We did it. For sure, fear involves some of the same chemical reactions in our brains that positive emotions like happiness and excitement do, but how do these seemingly contradictory set of emotions become so intertwined? Fear is a powerful and primitive human emotion. Yet according to Jane Clayso, “More than intelligence. More than talent. Even more than hard work. It’s a combination of unshakable motivation, persistence, and determination. And the belief that improvement is always possible. ” Yup, this is when the blooming of real power within humans begins and the flowering of perseverance prevails. We didn’t mean to get all goobly-gooky, we just want to express our appreciation, send out a “Thank You.” Thank you being supportive. Thank you for staying strong and thank you for being human.
